For SLEEPS
A very impressive catalogue of 'Places to Stay' - luxury properties, more affordable B&Bs, and unique spots (see Rose's Lighthouse!) - can be found at discovernewport.org.
There are a litany of charming bed and breakfast options in Newport and its surroundings you may care to explore. While the groom likely inhabits a houseboat, the bride will be staying at The Francis Malbone House at least one evening leading up. The Marshall Slocum Inn is another quaint favorite. There are plenty, but they do book quickly.
A sprinkling of houses and cottages for rent as modest-sized groups of 2s, 4s, 6s, and even 8+ can be found on vrbo & airbnb. Click on the site names to explore the searches I have loaded in for you!
You may come up with more properties by leaving the filters open and widening your range to cover the weekend, even if you do not intend to stay through it (counter-intuitive, I know). These private properties may be your best bet for saving your pennies. If you are struggling, please ask for help!
Keep in mind
Middletown, Rhode Island kisses Newport and is a good place to punch in to scout out lodging, often at a slightly less alarming price point.
sirensong
As with all picturesque New England sea-towns, the coastline is little, and rooms are a hot commodity even into the fall. As soon as you know you will be with us, please reserve a place to stay overnight. We do not want to find any sailor or his hopes have been dashed on the rocks.
HOTELS
There are a great many fancy-pants places if you wish to investigate, but we have secured special rates at the following comely hotels.

New hotspot vibe, modern, service-minded, the yellow place! I am not the Architectural Digest, but, 'the most beautiful hotel in Rhode Island,' says the Architectural Digest. It says this even though it used to be a Hyatt! Gwyneth Paltrow a fan. Comfortable and should be lovely.

Not amidst the Newport bustle (next to an Applebee's, actually), but updated, chic lobby, indoor pool, and very highly rated by its guests! Does the trick.
